Athlete of the Month: Tom Helpenstell

An interview with the inspirational Tom Helpenstell, one of the most accomplished endurance athletes I’ve met. Starting his impressive career as state diving champion for multiple years (while coaching himself and his high school team), NCAA Division II National Diving Champion, five-time All-American, to now multiple Ironman triathlons, ultra-marathons, mountaineering, bike tours… (the list goes on). Oh yeah, and did I mention he is an orthopaedic surgeon?

Athlete of the Month: Rita Losee

Rita Losee, ScD, RN made a decision to live a life of adventure, and since then finished the Hawaii Ironman; walked the Appalachian Trail, and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro among other amazing accomplishments. But after contracting Lyme Disease, her ability to move was almost impossible. Check out how she was able to recover!

Athlete of the Month: Megan Wheeler

12-time district champion, state champion, two-time All-American, winner of three junior national titles, and competitor at the 2004 Olympic Trials. However, a severe shoulder injury brought her dreams of going to the Olympics and becoming a professional swimmer to a halt. Yet, an end to an athletic career made way for other passions, and a much stronger person.
